The Sound of Climate Change
Together with marine biologist Dr. John Burt, Nester started the first interdisciplinary soundscape study of coral reefs in the Arabian Gulf, listening to the underwater world during a time of climate crisis. This project aims to produce both scientific and artistic outcomes.
Alongside recordings being collected, Nester is working with scientists and engineers at New York University Abu Dhabi to create discs made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) ocean plastic to play the soundscapes of these reefs on turntables. The goal for this artistic project is to capture the natural environment as it exists now and make commentary on our contribution to it – the sound of the ocean through the plastic that is choking it.
