Arcadia is an interactive sound and light installation that uses the biorhythms of plants to create music and corresponding light cues. It works by converting fluctuations in galvanic response (GSR) to MIDI data to control MIDI instruments in realtime - plants making music. In addition, contact microphones are used to convert incoming audio signals to playable pitches, allowing audiences to interact with the plants, turning the environment into one big musical instrument.
Nester has designed site-specific versions of Arcadia for Colby College, George Mason University, EcoArt Project, Bruny Island, the Festival of Art and Design Acerenza, and the City of Hobart.
